OUR MISSION AND ABOUT PONT

Proclaiming the gospel!

Living in Christ!

Caring for our neighbors.

Pontoppidan was first organized at a meeting in a Fargo home on Dec. 14, 1877. The name of the congregation was adopted: Pontoppidan Norwegian – Danish Evangelical Lutheran Congregation. The name Pontoppidan was chosen in honor of Bishop Erik Pontoppidan, an author of religious instruction. The name was not a unanimous decision and was later questioned – changing to the First Scandinavian Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fargo. The name was changed back to Pontoppidan within a month.

THINKING OF VISITING PONTOPPIDAN?

Pontoppidan Lutheran Church is an open and welcoming church.

Our typical services include prayer, sermon, children's message, and traditional and contemporary songs. We are always overjoyed when people want to come to worship with us, so please know there’s always room for more. We look forward to meeting you.

Some like to dress up for worship. Others dress very casually. You are welcome to come in whatever makes you comfortable.

See you on Sunday!
